Letter from PTA President

To all parents,

It gives me great pleasure to let you know that our first PTA meeting went well. We had a great group of seasoned PTA parents. We’re looking forward to welcoming the parents of the class of 2022.
During our meeting, several issues came to the forefront of the debate. One was the missing lunch forms from parents. Every year the state awards grants to schools with the right percentage of students who qualify for reduced or subsidized lunch. That percentage is a moving target, but to qualify for the grant, we need each family to fill out the lunch form and making sure it’s handed over to the school. Due to the missing forms, each year we miss out on $145,000 to $200,000 for our children. This year we ask you to please fill out the lunch form and return it immediately and help us help FMHS. Let’s not add to our let another year get away from us. This is an achievable target and I’m confident we can succeed in hitting it. LET’S ALL FILL THE LUNCH FORMS OUT FOR OUR CHILDREN.

This year, Diversity, Equality, and Fairness are the words of the new Chancellor and ours. Thus, we’re looking for at least two bilingual parents to join our EB team and help redefine our connection with Spanish speaking parents and others. We have open positions on our PTA executive board and one on our SLT (school leadership team). We’ll have a vote during our next PTA meeting. The SLT position requires attendance at a monthly meeting that is held at FMHS at 5pm on the first Tuesday of every
month. I’ve listed the open positions below.
• 1 SLT Member
• 1 or 2 Family Giving Coordinators.
• 1 or 2 Chairs of communication.

Other opportunities for parent participation include positions on our school web design team, and the student organization teachers’ funding committees. Positions are also available on the fundraising committee. There’s plenty of room for you if you’d like to be part of our executive board.
The PTA is currently looking to replace our apparel vendor. We’d once again like to give parents and students the opportunity to show our school spirit with T-shirts, sweats, and other items. Parent participation is welcome here, too.

Thank you,
Pape M Diedhiou, President, FMHS PTA
